I upgraded the Heating System for a couple’s first house, drastically lowering their energy bill and transforming showering and warmth!
…and this is how I did it
As a heating engineer, there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of transforming a house into a warm, comfortable home. Recently, I had the pleasure of working with a young couple who had just purchased their first house in Loughton, Essex. They were excited but faced the daunting challenge of decorating the entire house and modernising their old, inefficient central heating system.
The Challenge: Dealing with an Old Back Boiler
When I first arrived at their new home, I discovered they were relying on a back boiler from the 1980s, hidden behind the fireplace. While it had served its purpose for many years, it was time for an upgrade. The couple was dealing with high energy bills and inconsistent warmth, which made their first winter in the house less than cozy. It was clear that we needed make some changes.
The Solution: A Modern Heating Upgrade
After a thorough survey, and discussing their preferences, we got to work on a comprehensive heating upgrade. The first step was to remove the old back boiler and relocate the new system to the loft. This not only cleared up valuable space in their living area but also allowed for a more efficient setup.
Transforming the Loft
I boarded out the loft with plywood, creating a safe and practical area for the new equipment. A tidy installation is essential for both functionality and aesthetics, and this upgrade ensured everything was organised and properly housed.
Installing the ATAG System Boiler & PDHW cylinder
Next, I installed an ATAG system boiler, which came with an impressive 18-year manufacturer’s warranty. This boiler is designed for optimal performance and reliability, giving the couple peace of mind for years to come. ATAG have an Excellent rating on trust pilot. They’re well regarded by customers and engineers for their excellent customer service and build quality.
Along with the boiler, I set up a high recovery cylinder on a priority domestic hot water (PDHW) configuration. This means the cylinder recharges quickly, providing immediate access to hot water when they need it most.
Embracing Weather Compensation
One of the standout features of the new system is the weather compensation technology. This innovative feature allows the heating temperature to adjust based on the outside temperature, ensuring their home stays comfortable without wasting energy. As the weather changes, so does the heating output, making it a smart and efficient choice.
The Results: Comfort, Efficiency, and Savings
After completing the installation, I was thrilled to hear the couple’s feedback. Their water pressure and flow had significantly improved, resulting in amazing showers…And the icing on the cake? Their energy bills have nearly halved!
With this modern heating system in place, they can now enjoy a warm, cozy home while saving money. It’s rewarding to see how a thoughtful upgrade can have such a positive impact on a couple’s quality of life.
Conclusion: The Importance of Upgrading
For anyone considering a heating system upgrade, I highly recommend taking that step. Investing in modern technology not only enhances your comfort but can also lead to substantial savings over time. If you’re in Loughton or nearby and looking to improve your heating system, I’d love to help you create your own cozy haven.
In the end, upgrading isn’t just about new equipment; it’s about investing in comfort, efficiency, and a happier home. Here’s to warm winters, amazing showers, and the joy of a well-heated home!
